5 Lessons: Being a Lifestyle Blogger…
It will be interesting to know that my style of writing was mocked one time and the person who, unconsciously, mocked it probably doesn’t know that he did. This, however, didn’t stop me from writing. I am a conversationalist, and I love to write.
Combining these two makes me a conversationalist writer.
One of the reasons why I created my blog in 2012 was because I wholeheartedly wanted to improve my writing. I wanted to be a better writer and I wanted to be documented online. August 2016, after the whole master’s degree madness, I decided to take my blogging to a whole new level, and I am happy to say that I don’t regret this decision.
You do know that one of the beauties of life is the ability to learn if you allow yourself to. Whatever situation or phase you find yourself in you one way or the other learn a thing or two.
Here are the 5 lessons I have learnt as a lifestyle blogger:
My people! I was once an inconsistent individual. Not only in blogging, but in some areas of my life. When it started to become a problem, I had to work on it! Blogging has taught me to be consistent in many areas of my life… and… this is me being absolutely honest.
“In a sense who you have always been a story that you told to yourself. Now your self is a story that you tell to others.”
― Geoff Ryman
2| Finding your writing voice
It took me awhile to understand my style of writing. I had to do a lot of research on writing and its styles before I found out that I am a conversational writer: I write like I am having a face to face conversation with someone. I have found a way to inject my personality into my blog posts.
One time, I didn’t even consider writing a talent, but now I know that it is. I mean, you think of something creative, and put it in words? That’s a talent! If you are a writer, you are talented.
3| Networking is vital
This can’t be emphasised enough. I am a communicator, and I have always known that networking is important. Networking open doors! Countless doors.
This is why whenever I read a blog, I try to connect with the writer of the post by leaving a comment. As a blogger, you need to know other bloggers, and you need to network with the blogosphere.
4| Content creating
Creating contents have been an issue for me. For an obsessive planner, it isn’t a good thing because I like to begin a new month with various ideas for my blog. However, my being consistent in blogging has made content creating quite easy for me. This leads to my next lesson…
5| Constant learning and researching
I am such a curious cat, I constantly taste for more knowledge and more understanding. Blogging has fuelled this part of me because I want to create more relatable, enjoyable contents, I find myself researching and researching. Duh… I am a journalist, that is what we do: research.
Reading widely gives me various ideas for this blog.
Thank you for reading!
