“Whatever happens in your life, no matter how troubling things might seem, do not enter the neighbourhood of despair. Even when all doors remain closed, God will open up a new path only for you. Be thankful!”
― Elif Shafak, The Forty Rules of Love.
Twenty-sixteen is coming to an end. We are, probably, already setting goals and making plans for twenty-seventeen, however, before this is done, don’t you think we should be giving thanks to our Creator for such a wonderful year?
I was in my apartment, during my NYSC days, thinking about all the good things God has done in my life that year and I felt something was missing. At that point, I decided to write down all the things I was thankful for… since that year, writing down the things I am grateful for became a part of me.
For this post, I will be sharing with you simple ways, that have helped me, to writing down the things you are grateful for. You would be surprised at the things, that you have left out, God has done for you.
This may give you a reason to not call twenty-sixteen a shitty year.
Step One: Get a paper/journal and a pen…
I would advise that you get a small journal so that you can turn it into a yearly thanksgiving journal. Also, you can get to reread years later – if you keep it well. Nevertheless, if you are into technology more, you can use any of your devices.
Step two: Get comfortable…
Preferably sitting down. This is because you get to write clearer (for you to reread) and think better (for you to write more).
Step Three: Pray for retentive memory
This is very vital because I think at this point you want to write ALL of the things you are thankful for. To make your prayer easy, you can study a YouVersion devotion plan (Remembering All God Has Done), this could be before the day you decide to take these steps.
Step Four: Think about the most important thing that you are thankful for…
After you have prayed for retentive memory, think about the thing you are most grateful for and write it down first. This will trigger your memory.
Step Five: Write! Write!! Write!!!
I hope this has been helpful?
How will you be spending your new year’s eve and day? I will be in church clearing the road for an awesome year!
See you in twenty-seventeen.
