5 Nigerian Web Series With Excellent Soundtracks…
Lately, I have been admiring how many millennials in Nigeria are pushing out creative contents! From old media contents to new media contents, they seem to be unstoppable!
I initially wrote this article for Kakaki Africa and I decided over the weekend to recycle the content, adding a few more things, because… well… why not?
Nigerian webseries became quite popular in the year 2015. You must have read many blog posts and articles on the best Nigerian webseries to watch and all that juicy information. I am here to share with you five Nigerian webseries with excellent soundtracks.
Firstly, let’s have a little conversation about the importance of soundtracks in movies. Ore Sofola, a Nigerian movie producer, and the director calls this the ‘movie score’ because all songs used in a movie collectively make a soundtrack.
‘’Music is extremely important in filming. If there’s a scene where a guy is sneaking into a house and a sinister music sound is chosen the audience starts to feel scared,’’ said Ore.
‘’They know something is about to happen, something that isn’t good, but if we have the same scene and a comedic score is chosen the audience knows something funny or embarrassing is about to happen,’’ she added.
Songs used in a movie have the power to control our emotions in a good way and a bad way. This is why sometimes you can be watching an amazing scene and start crying because of the song used in the scene is simply amazing.
Finally, there isn’t a fixed method for choosing songs for a movie as it differs from producers to producers. She added: ‘’some filmmakers will tell you to listen to the audio of the film without watching the visuals and everything you feel within you will almost be the same,’’
Here are the three Nigerian webseries with dope soundtracks:
1| GIDI UP
Created in 2013 by Jadesola Osiberu and Lola Odedina, Gidi up has become a household name in the webseries/television industry. It is about a group of friends trying to make it in Lagos, Nigeria.
Produced by Ndani TV with Dare Olaitan of ‘Ojukokoro’ as writer and director, Lagos Big Boy is a story of four aspiring young men who tackle the challenges of being successful in Lagos, Nigeria.
Produced by Bola Atta, Wale Adetula and Lydia Idakula Sobogun, Our Best Friend Wedding is a romantic dramedy about a young man who is searching for a wife with the help of two of his female best friends.
4| THAT IS IT
Created in 2016 by Lowla Dee, that is it stole our hearts with the cuteness of two young couples Tomide and Dede – played by Nick Mutuma and Chiagoziem Mwakanma (respectively).
Produced and directed by OLA, this webseries sold our hearts with the interesting songs used in its first episode. It is basically about a lover boy that pretty much doesn’t have sense.
Thank you for reading, guys!
