5 Lessons: Creating a Bible study WhatsApp group…
I want to believe that my love for the YouVersion Bible App (follow me: Oreoluwa A) isn’t news for the beautiful people who constantly read my blog. The app has made me consistent in studying the Bible daily and I will forever be grateful for it.
There were sometimes when I needed to discuss some things I learnt or read after a reading a plan and it was so frustrating that I had no one to discuss it with. In fact, this happened so many times that the Holy Spirit had to direct me to create a Whatsapp Bible study group.
Initially, I didn’t take action until I woke up every morning thinking of the WhatsApp group that I was yet to create, then I knew that I had to create it because I was not the only person who needed it.
On one beautiful morning, I went on Twitter and asked people that were interested in joining the group to reach out to me.
The response was overwhelming.
I wanted to have 10 people, including myself, in this group, but I eventually added 24 people (24 amazing people, I must add).
The group is a month old now and I have learnt 5 things so far;
1| Listen to the Holy Spirit
I have been in different situations where the Holy Spirit tells me to do something and I don’t do it. To be honest, I don’t do it because I sometimes think it is me talking to me and not the Holy Spirit, I then take my time to discern the voice.
Discerning the voice of the Holy Spirit is very vital as Christians.
2| Many young people are still hungry for God
When I made the announcement about the group I didn’t expect a lot of people to reach out to me. I wanted a very small group, but God had a better plan. I smile whenever we talk about the things of God.
The Bible has made us understand that we shouldn’t let the excitement of our youth cause us to forget our Creator (Ecclesiastes 12:1) and I am glad that many youths are obedient to this Bible verse.
3| Sharing your experiences may help someone
Remember the saying: ”experience is the best teacher”? It makes so much sense to me now. Guys, do not be shy or scared to share your experiences or testimonies with people who are ready to listen and learn from them. In this group, I was quite surprised about how we comfortably we share personal stories with people you don’t really know.
My curiosity got an answer: God created this group Himself and He already knew the people that will be in the group, hence the comfort to share certain things.
4| Diversity is beautiful
Picture this: the coming together of people from different Christian backgrounds who are hungry for God. Whenever we have our discussions we, sometimes, say different things, but still, make sense. I think one of the beauties of life is its diversity.
People have different opinions about a topic, and if you are open-minded and willing to learn, you will learn.
5| There are some questions that you don’t know the answer to
I can’t fully explain this, but once I get the right words, I will let you know.
Fun facts about this group:
1| We are definitely going to be more than 25, soon.
2| I named it ”Driven by Eternity” because that was the name of the YouVersion Bible App plan I was studying when I created it.
3| We take turns to pick a plan to study.
4| Members of the group are currently in different countries.
5| We have our discussions on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Thank you for reading, guys!
