Beauty Tag with Temiloluwa of Peoniesandrubies
LSOO: What is your skin type and how were you able to identify it?
I have combination skin, my forehead and t-zone are really oily but the rest of my face is dry.
I read a lot of material on skincare and I learnt how to identify my skin type. Plus, I had my face mapped at the Beauty Therapy Institute stand at the last Beauty Africa expo and I got professional confirmation.
LSOO: Do you have an acne prone skin? If yes, how do you care for it?
My skin is incredibly acne prone; stress, hormones, certain foods, change of environment, change of products etc. easily triggers acne. For instance, I recently changed my environment and my skin reacted badly, my face is currently looking like a battlefield *sigh*😩.
I follow a strict skincare routine, I don’t joke with toning and exfoliating. I try to avoid experimenting with skincare products and makeup. I find what I like and stick to it. I wash my makeup brushes after each use and change my pillowcase regularly.
LSOO: How many times in a day do you wash your face?
I mostly wash my face twice a day. In the morning and before I sleep. Then sometimes in the middle of the day if necessary, like to wash off dust or sweat.
LSOO: What is your current facial wash and why do you use it?
I use the Neutrogena facial bar for acne prone skin. I’ve been using it for a while because it contains salicylic acid and is effective in managing acne.
LSOO: How do you wash your face?
I use my hands, I wash them first to prevent transfer of germs before moving on to washing my face. I plan to try a face brush soon.
LSOO: What exfoliating brand you use and why?
The st Ives blemish control apricot scrub. It’s very affordable and effective. Plus, it has salicylic acid. I also DIY sometimes; I use a mixture of honey and brown sugar.
LSOO: What are your top 5 must-have beauty products?
a. Lip balm is number one because chapped and crusty lips will NEVER be a good look.
b. A face moisturiser with spf, cue my Johnson facecare even tone moisturiser with spf.
c. Eyeliner is a major must-have for me, skipping eyeliner just makes me look like a zombie. On days that I don’t feel up to makeup, I just fill in my brows and use eyeliner and I’m good to go.
d. Shea butter, is that even a beauty product? Well, it’s a must have, for my hair and skin.
e. A nice, moisturising body lotion. Because ashiness is a big NO👎
(I don’t know if you can see a pattern, but I’m big on moisturising)
LSOO: What is your favourite lipstick brand?
It has to be Mac. Miliani also has some nice lipsticks and they’re affordable. Then Beyond Beauty has very nice and totally inexpensive lip stains.
LSOO: What brand of foundation, concealer and powder do you use?Why do you use them?
My go-to foundation is Revlon colorstay foundation. It’s amazing, honestly. It has a matte finish but it doesn’t leave my face super dry.
I use L.A. girl pro concealer, it’s affordable and it does the job.
Maybelline all-in-one powder is my go-to powder, I’ve been using it for a while now and it does the job so I’ve seen no reason to change. It has great coverage, I use it sometimes without foundation and it works well.
I also use the Black opal deluxe finishing powder and it sets foundation quite well.
LSOO: Have you ever considered taking a make-up class, at a point in your life?
Yes, I have. I actually plan to attend a makeup masterclass this year. I absolutely love watching tutorials on YouTube but that cannot compare to a real life class.
Thank you for reading, guys!
